After about 2 hours of listening to Lincoln’s jazz band, we can honestly say that we enjoyed the performance. In fact, we would recommend everyone to go watch the jazz performances. That being said, we should point out that it was not perfect, and it did have a couple of drawbacks.

One of the show’s strengths, yet also its imperfection, is they left the middle of the theater open for everyone to dance. In theory, that is a great idea, because what’s better than having fun and enjoying yourself while having jazz music playing in the background, right? Well, not quite, at first it started off with members of the jazz band dancing in the middle of the stage, but as the show progressed, members of the audience were encouraged to go up and have fun, and that’s where the flaw began. When members of the band were up, it was relatively quiet and we did not mind, but as the audience started appearing, the noise level went up. Children were dancing and talking. Mr. McKenzie, host of the event, later addressed the issue by saying that he loved the dancing but that the people dancing should keep their noise level down so that the audience could be able to enjoy the music. One small thing that really caught our attention was that there were no snacks for sale during intermission.

We’d like to point out that “Jazz Band Too” and the normal jazz band, were incredible. They played songs we all learned to love like “ You’re a Mean One, Mr.Grinch,” “Frosty The Snowman,” “Here Comes Santa Clause,” “Jingle All The Way.” Jazz Band Too performed their “John Cena Christmas Special”, which was their interesting twist on the popular John Cena meme that blew up on the Internet. One aspect of the show I loved were the solos; they were performed by various people like Jared Cruz, Eddie Madrigal, Jason Chung, and many others. Although it was sometimes hard to hear some of the solos, like Claudia  Azalde’s guitar solo, however it was definitely a good addition.

After the performance we asked Jared Cruz, one of the main soloists, “Do you think the audience enjoyed the performance?” He replied with “It was definitely better than a normal band concert and listening to beginning band.” He also mentioned some of the feedback the audience had for him, which consisted of “nice job!” and “you are really good!”

Overall, we give the performance a 9/10. In spite of the show being a bit noisy, lack of snacks for sale, and not being able to hear some of the instruments, we were able to look past all this, because of the outstanding performance Lincoln’s incredible jazz band had to offer.
