Recently Tech Shop has been offering its services to local residents to develop their talents or learn new skills and now they want to encourage artists from Lincoln to participate through their Artist in Residence program.

Tech Shop is a local, community-based workshop and prototyping studio located at 300 South Second St. that provides “cutting-edge tools, equipment, and computers loaded with design software featuring the Autodesk Design Suite” as stated on their website.

The program coordinator, Eleanor Lawson, gave us information regarding the Artists in Residence program. This summer is the perfect opportunity to take advantage of the 2 free TechShop classes one can take when chosen to participate in the program.

You can ask questions or to apply you need to send an email to [email protected] with your full name, phone number and email address. You will also need to include one paragraph on your artist bio, what you want to accomplish during your artist residency and 2-4 high quality images of your work or links to your social media or online portfolios.

This is a great opportunity since it is during the summer and you can go twice for free to see if you like it. Tech Shop is doing this program to “not only provide a great facility for an artist to explore and expand their work, but also to engage and enrich our TechShop member community. Artists work on projects that are shared with the TechShop community.”

So to grab this rare opportunity by completing the steps given and “Juried selection is based on quality of creative work, ability to interact with the public, career direction, and program diversity. Accepted artists will be notified via e-mail prior to each residency cycle.”

Tours are free and if you need any further information about Tech Shop can be found at their website http://www.techshop.ws/ts_sanjose.html and the flyer for the artists in residency can be found here at http://www.visiongallery.org/press/2015-2016/TechShop_AiR_Application.pdf.
