For Lincoln athletes, having a physical exam to participate in any sports at school is mandatory, so coaches are able to check how healthy the students are before putting them on the team and avoid serious illnesses or any issues when it’s time to play any sport.

But lately, a lot of students are not showing up because their physicals are not done or they don’t have the time to go to the doctor. This is a problem because a large number of valuable players were missing the first tryouts for winter sports. For example, the Lincoln soccer team had a lot of players missing due to the problem of sports physicals.

Most of the students say that this exam is useful, while some say it’s not important because they feel good and think they don’t have any physical issues or problems. Therefore, there’s no need to have a physician examine them to know if they are in a good enough condition to play a sport. They may have a great performance when the time to game and practices comes.

Also, because athletes lose time for just setting an appointment, there have been complaints that they have a lot of things to do and thus there is no time to go to the hospital.

Regardless, having a physical doesn’t take more than 20 minutes; it’s a very quick check with a physician and it doesn’t cost any money at all. Therefore, there should be no reasons for the athletes to refuse for not having their physical done. These kind of exams can be extremely important and effective because it’s always good to know in what condition anyone is in, especially those playing sports.
