Making his way up the ranks throughout the whole season, Lincoln freshman Adam Arenas dominated everyone in his weight class of 106 pounds. Most recently, this young wrestler nabbed the CCS title on Saturday, February 25.

To prepare for competition, Arenas trained by running consistently as part of his workout. He also joined a Palomino Academy Club at Bellarmine College Preparatory with his older brother, junior Julio Arenas. From 6pm to 8pm on weekdays, and sometimes Saturday mornings, the brothers train together.

After performing exceptionally well during the season, Adam Arenas was then eligible to compete in CCS (Central Coast Section) with other talented wrestlers. Since Adam was ranked 1st following the CCS Championship, he was able to go to Bakersfield to compete in the State Championship where he ended up not placing due to his injury. This was an incredible feat for Arenas, one of only a handful of freshmen to place at CCS.

Adam’s older brother Julio has made it to CCS before as well. During his freshman year Julio competed at CCS; he qualified to compete at CCS during his sophomore year as well, but said he “didn’t want to go.”

Their parents introduced Adam and Julio to wrestling at a very young age (7 or 8) and after years of practice, they only became better.

When asked if he is was proud of his brother, Julio Arenas said “Heck yeah I am [proud of him] for making it to CCS and State as his first time.”
