The Lions took two losses to the Leigh Longhorns Tuesday, March 21 and Thursday, March 23. On the 21 they got no hit the end  score being 7-0.

On the 21st, although the score was 11-1, the Lions put up a fight for the first half of the second game. The Longhorns were the first to score scoring two at the top of the first, the Lions returned with one run at the bottom of the first. The longhorns scored one in the 4th and the 5th while keeping the Lions silent putting them at a 4-1 lead. When the top of the 6th came around the Longhorns scored 4 runs putting the Lions at a 7 run disadvantage. The Lions were silent for the rest of the game. At the top of the 7th the Longhorns scored 3 putting the dagger through the hearts of the Lions. The end score being 11-1.

When asked if he’d make any  changes to the lineup, coach Stuart Piraro told Lion Tales “Too hard to tell right now. We gotta digest this game and go to work Saturday at practice.” Junior Aaron Reynolds shared his thoughts on how the team is doing this year. “We´re doing alright but we need to make a lot of adjustments to make a run at A league.”
In lighter news freshman Weston Scoffone is having an impressive year, leading his freshman counterparts in hits(7). A very timid and nervous Scoffone spoke to Lion Tales after the game. When asked if he does anything to prepare for games he said “I put my mind to 100 percent about winning the game.”. He is one of four freshman on varsity this year, a pretty astounding feat as this is Lincoln’s second year in A league for baseball. This is nothing new to Scoffone as he played varsity basketball this winter. “It feels pretty good,” Scoffone said when asked how it felt to be a freshman on varsity As the season progresses there are still some questions about who will be starting in left field. Scoffone is making a pretty good push for the position.

On March 28, the Lions played the Santa Teresa Saints at home beating them 9-6. They barely edged out the Saints with one more hit. The Lions now are 1-2 in league with a 9-5 record overall. The Lions will play the Saints at Santa Teresa today Thursday March 30th at 4pm.

Seniors Robert Najar and Ernesto Fernandez are leading the charge with a .459 and .465 batting average. Najar is leading the team with 20 hits while tied with Fernandez in RBIs with 17. Also sophomore Gus Murphy is having a successful season with a .424 batting average, leading his sophomore counterparts.
