Folklorico Dance Performance

Folklorico+Dance+Performance

Last night was the second show for the Folklorico dance performance in the blackbox theater. Mrs. Rosie Novotny puts on this show every year and it’s always pretty amazing. I went to watch and take pictures and here is my review. Before the show hot chocolate, tamales, and other snacks were sold outside before people sat down to watch the beautiful show. It was very cold so I’m sure the people selling the food made big money on hot chocolate and steaming tamales. The food was delicious and I had a nice full belly before going in to watch the sho

The show started at seven thirty and went on until nine thirty, so it was about two hours long. In my opinion I think that if it was going to be that long there should have been an intermission because of course there would be parents in the auidence, grand parents who go to see their grandchildren in the show and it is hard for them to sit there for a long period of time. I was walking around taking pictures and was getting a little weary from the lack of break. The lighting was pretty great, depending on which dances came up the lighting switched from dim to bright to fit the music.

Mrs. Novotny had Xochitl dance most of the faster dances that had more complicated choreography and the Intermediate and Beginning Folklorico classes dance the lesser complicated dances. I lost count of how many dances they did but they all rolled nicely together. You could tell that a tremendous amount of time and practice went into it because there were no mistakes that I could see. Even the beginning dance class was spot on with the music and the rhythm of the dance.
