Hazel Stange , A Lincoln High School student rolling her eyes. 2017
There are a lot of things that people hate in this world. All of these things can be distributed into different categories: foods, shows, shoes, clothes, the list goes on… I made the following list of a few things that some people hate and asked people to rank them.
Food
School
Life
Kinds of people
sushi
Waking up early
lies
People who judge
olives
Homework
Stress
Fake friends
Seafood
Class
spiders
Racist people
I asked them questions like: What do you hate the most/ least, and why do you hate these things? Some people said some interesting things like Isabel Flores. She said with a sarcastic tone “I like seafood because I’m Mexican, duh.” Or like Maria Ruiz exaggerated “everybody hates olives.” People seemed to really hate lies and fake friends the most which really says something about our student body, it says that most students here really care about honesty.
Most of the people I interviewed said that they hate olives (Isabel Flores), waking up early (Mariela Santacruz), lies (Maria Ruiz), and fake friends (Andrea Garcia) the most. The things they hated the least were seafood, class, spiders, and people that judge.
There is a huge difference between hating something and disliking something. In my opinion, when you hate something you don’t want to see it or hear it, depending on what it is. But if you dislike something, you don’t really care about it. You can still stand it but you just don’t care for it. I asked some people what they thought the difference between hating and disliking things meant to them and here is what they said:
-Luz Torres said with a disgusted look on her face….“Hating something is like you can’t stand it, like it just makes you feel disgusting.”
-Yaritza Santacruz said, “Hating is like hate, you definitely don’t like it and then dislike is when you don’t like something but you don’t really care for it.”
Next time you come across someone that hates olives, remember that they are not alone.
