“Saving Mr. Banks” Film Review

Saving Mr. Banks Film Review

A newly released movie just came out called, “Saving Mr. Banks.” It is based on the very true story of how the classic movie, Mary Poppins, came to be. We all remember Mary Poppins as a kid; she’s the nanny who floated through the window one day to save a family’s relationship. The movie was was created by Walt Disney in 1964, but Mary Poppins was not his character. Unlike the medicine, the process of making Mary Poppins did not go down smoothly with a simple spoon full of sugar.

Before the Mary Poppins movie there were books written about her by the author, P.L. Travers. Disney had been trying to buy the rights to Mary Poppins for twenty years before Travers agreed to sign it over to Walt Disney, with a price of course. She wanted to collaborate with Disney and the creators of the movie to say what goes and what doesn’t go. The whole move, “Saving Mr. Banks,” is about her struggle of giving up her rights to her beloved characters and how the whole movie, “Mary Poppins” came to be.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie, on a scale of 1-10 I give it an 8 and a half. It was very interesting and factual, but I do not recommend you take smaller children to see it.  The movie is about two hours and fifteen minutes long and it may be hard for them to sit through it, it may be a bit boring for them. Other than that, it’s a movie I suggest everyone to go see, you’ll be surprised about how much of a struggle it was just to make one movie happen.
