Fall Concert: Quad Quilted With Music

The first band performance of the year at September 13, 2018!

On September 13, 2018 in the evening, the bands of Abraham Lincoln High School had the first performance of the year in the quad. The parents organized a little barbecue, selling burgers, cookies, strawberries, chips, brownies and drinks for sale. All proceeds from the food sales went directly back to Lincoln’s music program.

The whole performance had three different parts. First, the Jazz Band 1 played three songs. After that, the Wind Ensemble played together with the orchestra, and then the Pep Band had a performance as well. All performances were lead by Mr. Gomez who teaches all the bands at Lincoln High. The Pep Band played a few really cool songs, such as “Tusk” (Fleetwood Mac), and Lincoln’s Fight Song.

Lincoln Lion Tales talked to Lupe Vindida, a member of the Wind Ensemble and the Pep Band. She told Lincoln Lion Tales, that she was pretty excited about the performance, because she thinks, that performances are always fun. Just as expected she had a lot of fun at that night too. She thinks, that the performance went really good, and she also was very surprised about the sound in the quad, because she thought it would be worse.

Overall, the night was a success. The band is an important part of student’s lives. “Playing music is very important,” Lupe said, “and in our day to day lives…you have to use math in music, and it is a good break for an hour from other classes.”
