Bike Party Promotes a New Culture on City Streets

September 24, 2014

San Jose Bike Party was jamming last Friday as bike riders across San Jose stormed all night for a total distance of 20 miles.

Lion Tales spoke to three Lincoln students who are avid participants in the monthly Bike Party.

Junior Salvador Cohente said, “The bike rides are always fun and a good time. There’s always something happening and the rides are long so it’s also a good workout.”

Alex Garate, another junior, commented, “I love going to the Bike Parties because I’m an average bike commuter throughout San Jose and I like the cool bikes that are always there, and the people there are funny and a good time to hang or ride with.”

The third student, junior Allan Martinez, said that he wishes Bike Parties happened more often so he could get more riding in. About his favorite part of the event, Martinez said, “Every time I go, I always enjoy the music they play and the food that they sell, especially the taco trucks.”

Friday night Bike Parties are one of the best times for people to set off through the city on bicycle. Not only do you ride, but you are also showing support for safety laws that should be put into effect on the roads for bike riders in San Jose. This isn’t just a fun event, but a political campaign that wants to help the community make bike riding safe on everyday streets.

Mass bike riding on an everyday basis is an easy way to help the environment and keep our air healthy and smog-free, so it is important that people feel safe enough on their city streets to go out and ride.

Bike Party events take place every 3rd Friday of the month, usually starting at 8pm and ending at 12am. Everyone is welcome at this event, rider or not. You get to enjoy your fellow friends and community, and there’s food, drinks, shows, music and constant dancing going on. If you love any of these activities, the Bike Party is where you should be. Come support your community by participating in and enjoying the ride.

More information about joining this biking movement can be found at the San Jose Bike Party website.
