OPINION: Your Future is in Your Hands

If you are a high school student, no matter what dreams you have, and what type of situation you live in, it is absolutely possible to convert them into a reality. You must already have the blueprint of your future, in order to succeed in your goals. However, if you have not ever thought about this, it is now time to put all your mind and motivation into this, and eventually into your future. So obviously if you agreed to the above statement, you know that during your senior year you will have to decide upon which college you desire to attend following your graduation.

Most students think “when it is time, I will start applying to colleges”, and others think, “I want to go to this college because I like how it looks, and its big, and a lot of my classmates are going there.” But, see this type of mindset has been repeated over the years by many people all over the world, and it is one that ruins us and our lives. We always say when it is time, and because others go there, but when is the right time, and why do those people want to go to that school? These are the questions that are always left unanswered, and we do know that if you take away one piece from a clock it is not going to work, and the same goes for us humans. The truth is that  there is no right time, or right college, or right choice, though there is a list of standards or  minimums that at one point, all of us were given at an early age. And not knowing any better we grew up following them, because we never took a moment to look around and think that we don’t have to do or be like everyone.

In the end, we are not robots who were programmed or built to perform a specific task at all times and nothing more, we are not machines, like cars, or equipment you would find in a food industry, we are humans. And the reason we were created is to have different, thoughts, feelings, looks, ideas, and beliefs. This is also why, we humans have the most advanced technology in the world which is within us, the human brain. The human brain is so complex that even today, scientists don’t understand more than half of it, and how it works.

All of this is what we as individuals have to understand, we can not just follow the standards and the world around us if we want our dreams to become our future. They completely contradict each other, it is the same to say that, you want to be a singer but you spend 6 hours a day playing soccer. This is how unrealistic we are when we choose to follow everyone else and then say we want to be something else. Following a person who wants to be a professor of math, while your dream is to be a movie director, is a paradox that will never be solved.

So when you reach high school, decide who you want to be, and what college you want to go to, by investigating each and every choice in detail, from the beginning to the end, and play by the rules but do not  play safe. Knowing your dreams and goals will help you decide upon the college of your choice. It is also of a huge importance to never follow what someone else does or says without analyzing, but also of course do not be stubborn, and be considerable of what others are trying to convey. Lastly remember the following: do not let someone else’s words rule you, do not let fear govern your life, and do not let your skills define your abilities. After all, in order for our dreams to come true we need to be who we were created to be, individuals like the minority rather than followers like majority.
