Student Spotlight: Experience of Giving Blood
Hundreds of members of the Lincoln community swarmed the small gym on Friday, Jan. 30th, to have needles pricked into their arms and a pint of blood taken from their bodies. Why? The annual Interact Blood Drive, sponsored by Stanford’s medical center.
Students had different reasons for wanting to give blood. Matthew Pietrusewicz said, “I just wanted to try it and see what my blood type is.”
Juan Carrillo said, “My reason to give blood is to help other people that need it.”
Christina Santiago said, ” I don’t really know, I’ve just always wanted to give blood since I was in middle school. It’s like a dream and I fulfilled it.”
When asked how the experience of giving blood was, many focused on whether it was painful or not. Santiago said, “It was painful, not that painful but it hurt more than I expected.”
Pietrusewicz stated, “It didn’t hurt as much as I thought it would, basically. I think that’s what everyone would say. It was fun to see just how it works.”
Another student, Estefania Rodriguez, stated, “I decided to give blood because I know there’s people out there, like little babies, that need it and they depend on us.” She added, “It was fun, it didn’t hurt a lot.”
