Junior Parent Night Recap

Juniors were given informational handouts for their upcoming year. About 20 parents attended and all their questions and concerns were addressed. The Parent Night was held in the Black Box Theater on March 12th (Lincoln Lion Tales/Nallely Nava)

Every parent’s pen dashed across paper when Lincoln counselor, Vince Mora, went over the need to knows for senior year.

Mr. Mora started off the one hour presentation with talking about class selections for the 2015-2016 school year. He could not stress enough the importance of students returning the blue course form into their History teacher AND students selecting classes on the campus portal by the 27th of March. Both are necessary.

Another topic he discussed was the SATs. The class of 2016 is the last class to take the SATs before they are changed into a new format. There is no need for juniors to worry about the new format because it will come into effect in the spring of 2016.

It was strongly recommended that all students take the SATs more than once. Once in the Spring of junior year, and again in October of senior year. October of senior year may seem too late, but college application deadlines begin in November.

Students can register on collegeboard.org. Necessary materials include the admission ticket, photo ID, number two pencils, and a calculator.  A $52.50 fee is required when you sign up to take the SAT but if students’ are on free and reduced lunch they can pick up a fee waiver from the college and career center.

Parents were also reminded of Naviance. Naviance is extremely helpful to keep all students’ college plans organized. It also has letter of recommendation forms available for students to download. These forms will be vital in providing teachers and counselors with enough information on the student to write a quality letter of recommendation.

If students have forgotten their login information, the username is a capital S followed by their ID number. The password is the student’s six digit birthday.

Parents were informed of the WACAC College Fair. The college fair will take place at Mission College on May 7th from 10am to noon and again from 6pm to 8pm. It is strongly recommended for students to attend. They can register for the event at missioncollege.org.

There will be representatives from over 150 schools at the college fair. If students register online beforehand, they can print out a barcode that they will be able to scan at college booths to receive information.

Solely thinking about these topics may be overwhelming, but the preparations for senior year are in full effect.
