Una adolescente de 16 años de edad en Honduras, Nelsi Pérez, de repente se enfermó cuando tenía tres meses de embarazo. Su enfermedad fue tan grave, que su familia creía que  ella había sido poseída por algo malo; un demonio. En la necesidad desesperada de una cura, su familia contactó a un pastor para llevar a cabo un exorcismo. Durante el procedimiento, el pastor le decía a la adolescente que repitiera la palabra “Dios” y ella se negó, pero con una voz diferente que no le pertenecía a ella. Cuando su condición empeoró, fue trasladada de urgencia al hospital, pero fue declarada muerta a las pocas horas. Poco después de que ella fue enterrada, el novio de Nelsi, Rody González, visitó su tumba y empezó a oír golpes que venían desde adentro de la tumba. Él pensó que estaba oyendo cosas, hasta que un trabajador del cementerio también afirmó que también escuchaba estos ruidos extraños.

Debido a las golpes y gritos, su novio y su familia estaban convencidos de que Nelsi fue enterrada viva y nunca estaba muerta desde el comienzo. Después, sus familiares sacaron su tumba y el ataúd con la esperanza de conseguir la joven de vuelta a la seguridad. Por desgracia, cuando fue trasladada de urgencia a la clínica, todavía acostada en su ataúd y vestida con el vestido de novia que se iba a poner cuando ella se casaría con el padre de su hijo por nacer, los médicos no pudieron encontrar ninguna señal de vida. Sus familiares notaron signos de lucha en el panel de vidrio del ataúd que estaba colocada sobre su cara y moretones en sus dedos, como si hubiera estado tratando de salir de su ataúd antes de que la sacaron. Glady’s Gutierrez, la tía de la niña, dijo que Nelsi no olía mal y el color de su piel no estaba pálida para que la consideren muerta, pero era difícil de averiguar la verdadera respuesta. ¿Estaba Nelsi Pérez viva con la necesidad de ser liberada de su ataúd, o era algo del “otro lado”, tratando de meterse con su familia? Como es difícil de creer, el caso de la joven provocó mucha especulación sobre lo que podría haber sucedido.

During the procedure, the pastor kept asking the young girl to repeat the word “God” and she refused, but with a different voice coming out of her. When her condition worsened, she was rushed to the hospital, but was pronounced dead a few hours later. Soon after she was buried, Nelsi’s boyfriend, Rody Gonzales, visited her tomb and started to hear banging coming from within. He figured he was just hearing things, until a cemetery worker also claimed to begin hearing these strange noises as well.

Due to the bangings and screams, her boyfriend and her family were convinced that Nelsi was buried alive and was never dead to begin with. Afterwards, her relatives broke down her tomb and pulled out her coffin to hopefully be able to get the young girl back out to safety. Unfortunately, when she was rushed to the clinic, still lying in her coffin and dressed in the wedding gown she was going to wear when she’d marry the father of her unborn child, the doctors were not able to find any sign of life. Her relatives noticed signs of struggle in the broken glass panel of the coffin over her face and bruises on her fingers, as if she had been trying to get out of her coffin before hand. Glady’s Gutierrez, the girl’s aunt, stated that she didn’t smell bad and her skin color wasn’t pale for anyone to consider her dead but it was hard to figure out the real answer. Was Nelsi Perez alive and in need of freedom from her coffin, or was it something from the “other side” trying to mess with her family? As it is hard to believe, the case of the young girl sparked much speculation over what could have happened.
