Review: “Still Life Of Iris”
“Still Life of Iris,” the most recent production from Lincoln Theater Arts, which ran February 4th, 5th, and 6th, was a success. Tickets for this show were made available to 500 elementary school students from Trace, a neighboring school of Lincoln, free of charge. Chuck Manthe said “It’s great for them to come to the theatre for a full play and it helps to firmly plant the seed that Lincoln is where they’ll go for performing when it’s time.”
The play was based on a book called The Still Life Of Iris published back in 1998 by author Steven Dietz.
The “Still life of Iris” starts off in Nocturno, a land where a child’s fantasy interacts with reality. Nocturno is a city which makes things like snowflakes that fall from the sky, dots that are found in ladybugs, where Iris, the main character, lives. People in this fantasy world wear coats which have pins, cloth, buttons, and other items, where each item represents and holds a memory of their past. When an item that holds a memory is lost or removed from their coat then the memory is lost. Iris later gets her coat taken off, and forgets who she is and where she came from. She later overcomes various obstacles as she goes on an adventure to finally get her memory back of who she is.
We rate the play 9/10.
Overall, when we attended on February 5th, there were no complaints about the show, except for the fact that you could sometimes hear the technicians and actors talking backstage which interrupted the show at times. It should be noted that we did have the seats closest to backstage. Despite this small drawback, the play was engaging and the actors were brilliant. The set was also very creative; its vibrant colors went perfectly with the theme. The costumes were also well designed, and the food available for purchase was a nice compliment to the show.
We loved the show and would definitely go see it again if we had the opportunity.
