New Addition to Lincoln’s Newspaper Archives

The newspapers (William Quevedo/Lion Tales)

On April 20th Lincoln received a stack of 21 old Lincoln lion tales newspapers from 1947-48. They were donated by a Lincoln alumni Amy Sarringhaus, and her mother Carolyn Ingram Pahle, who was a Lincoln class of 1947 graduate. The Newspaper are dated from May 1947 to June 1948. The papers are filled with many great articles from the past.

You’re able to see what was going on in that era. It is also filled with many old advertisements that are from historical places around San Jose, such as Downtown San Jose’s Main Shopping center Harts. The Harts Department store was a major part of Downtown San Jose from about 1866-1968. It also featured Articles about Lincoln which you can see till this very day. Such as the approval of the “L” shaped pool here at Lincoln.

With each article in the newspapers you can visualize how the Lincoln student body was in the late 1940s post world war 2. These students helped create the Lincoln tradition and pride that many students have had all throughout Lincoln history.

It’s amazing how long these newspapers have lasted with only minor tears. They’re over 60 years old. We here at Lion Tales feel grateful to have these newspapers returned to us to be added to Lincoln’s History books.

Stay tuned next year for seeing these newspapers archived digitally!
