Señorita Jiménez:

Hola mi nombre es ms Jiménez. Soy una nueva asesora DCAC (…)en la Preparatoria Lincoln y estoy aquí para ayudar a las personas que son estudiantes universitarios de primera generación o no representados en la universidad e ingresar a la universidad o si necesitan ayuda en buscar un trabajo o ir directamente a la fuerza laboral que puede ayudar a encontrar prácticas.

Jocelyn:
Hecho curioso.  A qué preparatoria fuiste?    

Señorita Jiménez:
Fui a la Preparatoria Lincoln los cuatro años del 2008 a 2012, clase de 2012.
Eddie:
Y en qué universidad asistió?
Señorita Jiménez:

Fui a la Universidad de California en Santa Bárbara, los cuatro años, fui directamente después de Lincoln a la UC Santa Barbara y yo soy un “gaucho” muy orgulloso. Yo te puedo contar sobre mi especialidad.
Betsy:
Sí
Señorita Jiménez:
Así que me licencié en sociología y también hice una especialización en estudios educativos, por eso es lo que más me apasiona, la educación, mi comunidad, así que estoy contenta de estar de vuelta.
Jocelyn:
¿Y por qué eligió  usted a Lincoln como un trabajo estable?
Señorita Jimenez:

Si, bueno después de la universidad no sabía lo que quería hacer. No quería ir directamente a la escuela de posgrado, así que quería ver qué área de la educación que quería ser parte. Yo sé que no quería enseñar pero quería estar involucrada de alguna manera con la educación así que creo que el asesoramiento es una buena opción, pero quería probarlo primero. Y así que es una beca que estoy haciendo, un compromiso de 2 años me dará experiencia en este tipo de campo, y yo creo que es una manera segura de probar qué áreas se me da bien y tal vez áreas no tan buenas.

Eddie:
¿Qué quieres que los estudiantes de Abraham Lincoln sepan de ti?
Señorita Jiménez:
Yo estaba muy orientada académicamente cuando estaba en Lincoln y siento que yo no tome ventaja suficiente de todos los clubes y como todas las clases de artes escénicas, así que lo haría sin duda, si pudiera hacer mis cuatro años en el Lincoln otra vez estaria más involucrada en la escuela y también se ve muy, muy bien en las aplicaciones para la universidad, que no solo eres orientado académicamente, pero también en otras actividades extracurriculares.
Betsy:
Entonces, ¿Qué le gusta hacer en su tiempo libre?
Señorita Jiménez:
Me gusta hacer tatuajes de henna.
Jocelyn:
¡¿Oh en serio?!
Señorita Jiménez:
Sí, me gusta hacer tatuajes de henna, me gusta ir de excursión, me gusta viajar dentro de California ya que soy un poco pobre, todavía  no puedo viajar fuera del país, pero me gusta descubrir diferentes ciudades pequeñas y probar diferentes lugares de comida, o pequeños festivales, como festivales griegos.
Eddie:
¿Qué es lo que quieres hacer después de trabajar en la preparatoria Lincoln?
Señorita Jiménez:
Tengo la esperanza de sacar una maestría, tal vez me transfiero, sería impresionante si pudiera ir a Stanford o Berkeley, u otra gran escuela, pero ese es mi objetivo en este momento, entrar en la escuela de posgrado y encontrar dónde pertenezco.

Hi my name is ms  Jimenez. I am a new dcac advisor at Lincoln High School and I am here to help students that are first generation college students or unrepresented in college get into college or if they need help with work or going straight into the workforce i can help them find internships or jobs related to what their career interest are.

Interviewer:

Fun Fact. What High School did you go to?

Ms Jimenez:

I went to Lincoln High School all four years from 2008 to 2012, so class of 2012.

Interviewer:

And what college did you attend?

Ms Jimenez:

I went to UC Santa Barbara, all four years, I went straight up after Lincoln to UC Santa Barbara and I’m a very proud Gaucho. I can tell you about my major.

Interviewer:

Yeah

Ms Jimenez:

So I majored in sociology and I also did a  minor in educational studies, um that’s what i’m most passionate about, education, my community, so I’m glad to be back.

Interviewer:

And why did you come to Lincoln like as a stable job?

Ms. Jimenez:

Yeah well after college I didn’t know what I was going to do and I didn’t want to go straight into grad school so I wanted to see what area of education i wanted to be part of. I know I didn’t want to teach but I wanted to somehow be involved with education so I think counseling was like a good option but I wanted to try it out first. And so its a fellowship that im doing, its 2 year commitment thing it will give me experience on this type of field, and I think it’s a safe way to try out which areas I’m good at and maybe not so good at.

Interviewer:

What do you want students from Abraham Lincoln to know about you?

Ms Jimenez:

I was very academically oriented when I was at Lincoln and I feel like I didn’t take enough advantage of all the clubs and like all the performing arts classes, so I will definately, if I could do over my four years at lincoln i would be more involved with the school and it also looks really really good in your college app, that you’re not just academically oriented, but really good in your extracurricular activities.

Interviewer:

So what hobbies do you like to do in your free time?

Ms Jimenez:

I like to do henna tattoos.

Interviewer:

Oh really?!

Ms Jimenez:

Yeah, I like to do henna tattoos, umm I like to go hiking, I like to travel within California since i’m kinda poor, still and i can’t travel out of country but going to like different little cities and just trying out different food places, or little festivals, like greek festivals.

Interviewer:

What do you want to do after working with Lincoln High School?

Ms Jimenez:

Im hoping to go to Grad school, maybe I mean, it be awesome if I could go like to Stanford, or Berkeley, or like a really crazy great school, but that’s my goal right now, to get into grad school and find where I belong.
