Nuestro director, el Señor Matthew Hewitson, ha recibido un gran honor, el  “Premio de la Cámara de Comercio de Silicon Valley, San José.” La comunidad de Lincoln está orgullosa de él y unos representantes de la clase de traducción hicieron una entrevista con el señor Hewitson sobre el premio. Aquí están las preguntas y sus respuestas en español y en inglés.

Our principal, Mr. Matthew Hewitson, has received a major honor, the “Silicon Valley San Jose Chamber of Commerce Award.” The Lincoln community is proud of him and some representatives from the translation class conducted an interview with Mr. Hewitson about the award. Here are the questions and his answers.

(Jessica Jones): “¿Cómo se llama este premio y quién le nominó?”

Señor Hewitson: Se llama el Premio de la Cámara de Comercio de Silicon Valley, San José. Fui nominado por dos personas: la Superintendente del Distrito Unificado San José, Nancy Albarrán. También, por la Fundación de Lincoln, que es el grupo de alumnos y padres que hacen recaudación de fondos para la escuela, y Oreen Gernrich, quien era la directora antes que mí, y es una de mis mentores. Ella y la fundación también me nominaron.

(Jessica Jones): “What is the name of the award and who nominated you?”

Mr. Hewitson: “It is the Silicon Valley San Jose Chamber of Commerce Award. I was nominated by two people: the Superintendent of San Jose Unified, Nancy Albarrán, and also by the Lincoln Foundation which is the group of alumni and parents that do fundraising for the school, Oreen Gernrich, who used to be a principal here, and is one of my mentors. She and the foundation also nominated me.”

(Yaseen Shokry): “En su opinión, ¿cuáles son las razones por recibir este honor?”

Sr. Hewitson: ¨Verdaderamente, pienso que es por el hecho que Lincoln es genial, pienso que eso es lo que realmente importa, de verdad aquí pasan cosas increíbles y tenemos un grupo fantástico de estudiantes que logran mucho en las clases y en los programas de artes visuales y escénicas que tenemos, de atletismo, servicio comunitario, programas como [TWBI].  De todos modos, hay un montón de cosas buenas pasando aquí, tenemos un estupendo cuerpo profesoral, maestros, y un personal de apoyo, muchos alumnaes activos, pienso que una de las cosas más increíbles aquí es que muchas personas están involucradas. Este apoyo hace que mi trabajo sea fácil y me hace mirar bien cuando es un lugar tan impresionante.¨

(Yaseen Shokry): “In your opinion, why did you receive this award?”

Mr. Hewitson: Honestly, I think it boils down to the fact that Lincoln is awesome, I think that’s what it comes down to, I mean we’ve got really cool stuff going on here, we’ve got a fantastic group of students, that achieve a lot both in the classroom, and all the performing and visual arts we have, in athletics, and in all sorts of other ways, in community service, programs like [TWBI]. Anyway, there’s just a lot of neat stuff going on here, we got really hard working faculty, and teachers, and support staff, a lot of really active alumni, I think that’s one of the really cool things about this place is that you got a lot of people that used to go here and are so involved, it kind of makes my job easy and makes me look good when it’s such an awesome place.”

(Liv Brashears): ¿Qué significa este premio para usted, siendo el director de LHS?

Sr. Hewitson: “Es un honor tremendo, porque me siento como si no fuera solamente un premio para mi, es un premio para la escuela, para ustedes, los estudiantes, para toda la gente que acabo de mencionar, asi que me hace feliz que Lincoln sea reconocido. Para mí, esa es la parte más importante.”

(Liv Brashears): What does this award mean to you, as the principal of Lincoln High School?

Mr. Hewitson: “It is a tremendous honor, it is very humbling, because I feel like it’s not an award for me, it’s an award for the school, for you guys, for the kids, for all the folks I just mentioned, and so that makes me happy. I love when Lincoln gets recognition, so to me, that’s the most important part.”

(Yaseen Shokry): ¿Habrá una ceremonia para celebrar su premio?

Sr. Hewitson: “Sí, en el 18 de diciembre, la Cámara de Comercio organiza un evento llamado Leyenda de Líderes, donde un grupo de empresas reciben honores y van a tener un orador invitado… su nombre es Bob Woodward, quien fue un reportero para el Washington Post: él fue quien reportó sobre el caso Watergate donde Nixon tuvo que renunciar a la presidencia…Entonces él va a hablar en diciembre.”

(Yaseen Shokry): Will there be an award ceremony?

Mr. Hewitson:“Yeah, so on December 8th, there is a Chamber of Commerce puts on an event called Legends of Leaders where a bunch of business leaders get awards, and they’re having a guest speaker there…his name is Bob Woodward, he was a reporter for the Washington Post, he was the reporter that broke the Watergate story when Nixon had to resign, and then he has had a bunch of book about Presidents ever since. So he is going to speak there. ANd that is in December.
