Lincoln’s Annual Blood Drive
On January 27th, 2017, Lincoln had its annual Blood Drive. It was held in the small gym and lasted all day. Unfortunately, not everyone could participate in this, there were a lot of requirements/questions in order to be able to donate. Some were:
- What did you eat?
- Have you lived outside of the U.S(1980-1996)
- Have to be 16
- Over 110 lbs
- Do you have tattoos or piercings? If so, professional or home done?
- Can not be sick
- I.D?
- Were you injured recently
- Are you in any sports?
If you passed all these requirements then you where good to go…to the next step.
Then you signed and waited to be called into an area where they would do more tests on you, for example check your temperature, pulse and ask you more questions and other things. After being sure that you were all clear you could finally donate blood. The process only took about 8-15 min (time varied). When that was done you had to eat/drink some of the things that where provided to recover like pretzels, granola bars, cookies, and orange juice. Then you were good to go with the satisfaction of knowing that you saved a person.
Each person donated 1 pint of blood (enough to fill a personal ice cream container) and there were over 100 donors this year! Each donated pint helped three people, which is 300+ people that where helped by the Lincoln Community.
Keep being caring, Lincoln!
