Meet Mrs. Deep Kaur, New Math Teacher.

Amar Deep Kaur in her classroom on October 13, 2017 (Siena da Costa Pinto/ Lincoln Lion Tales)

Amar Deep Kaur is a first year math teacher here at Lincoln High School. She has always dreamed of being a teacher due to the influence of her family; her mom taught English and History in India, her uncles were teachers as well. Mrs. Deep Kaur explains, “When I was little I used to call people from my neighborhood, and I used to teach kids just to like pretend I’m a teacher.” Mrs. Deep Kaur’s father also played a role in her ambition to become a math teacher: “I liked math because my father was a bank manager. And like, he usually dealt with money. I saw him counting numbers…that’s how I built my interest in math and in numbers.”

She did not know a lot about Lincoln, just heard stories, but claims all the stories were true and that the staff and students are great.

Mrs. Deep Kaur got her student teaching experience at Overfelt High School, Lincoln is her first official teaching job.

She enjoys listening to music and drawing in her free time. She is a mother too, and her kids take up most of her free time. Thus, she doesn’t often watch movies, but her favorite film is called Finding Fanny, a bollywood romantic comedy.
