New Teacher Profile: Ms. Katherine Batti
Abraham Lincoln High School is proud to welcome a new math teacher, Ms. Katherine Batti. Growing up, Ms. Batti wanted to be a veterinarian, but by her senior year she had figured out she wanted to be a teacher. She graduated with her teaching credentials (one in elementary and another for high school math) from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo.
Although Ms. Batti is new to this school, this is her 5th year of teaching. She previously taught science at Oasis Charter School (Salinas, CA) & Most Holy Trinity School (San Jose, CA). Although she previously taught science, her true passion is math. She loves that math has specific correct answers and practical application to science, which is her second favorite subject, she said.
Ms. Batti had heard about Lincoln through a friend and was instantly intrigued when they told her about its extensive dance teams and opportunities. Ms. Batti has always been passionate about dance. At the age of 2 she started with ballet, tap, and jazz. By the time she was 10 years old she joined an Irish step team and would compete outside of school. Even now she continues to love dancing in her free time.
When she heard Lincoln was hiring, she quickly applied and got the job teaching Algebra I and Geometry. Lincoln is larger than both the previous schools where she taught. She likes how friendly and involved the administration, staff, parents, and students are in the school.
An interesting fact about Ms. Batti is that she had attended 3 Grammys and was even able to walk the red carpet! The opportunity arose through a person she knew in the music industry while they were enrolled at University of Southern California (USC) and was able to attend in the years 2009, 2010, and 2011.
