Financial Aid Tips For College
On Thursday, January 31st, 2019, there was an event where counselors discussed the financial aid process, and provided information on how to apply for financial aid. Then, on Wednesday, February 6, 2019, there was a financial aid workshop in the Lincoln Media Center, as well as a Spanish version in the Black Box Theater. If you missed both of these events, don’t worry. We have some advice and tips to help you sign up for financial aid!
Starting off, if you have a social security number, sign up for a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). However, if you do not have a social security number, sign up for the DREAM Act (Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Act).
For the FAFSA, you need to create an FSA id on the FAFSA website [https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/]. If you aren’t an independent student, a parent or guardian will have to also create an FSA id. You will need to fill out an application, which requires basic information, like your social security number, as well as the previous year’s taxes.
For the DREAM Act, you need to create a user ID on the DREAM Act website [https://dream.csac.ca.gov/]. You will then need to acquire your high school transcript to turn in along with your finished application which requires basic information, like house income.
