Breast Cancer Awareness Week: Making Us Aware of the Real Cancer Impact

October is considered to be the Breast Cancer Awareness Month worldwide.

Did you know…

That 1 in 8, or 12.3% of women, have a risk of being diagnosed with breast cancer?

That around 3 million living U.S. women have a history of breast cancer?

That breast cancer accounts for 29% of all cancers diagnosed in women?

If you want  to know more about breast cancer, you can visit this link, or even better, you can come to Lincoln High School since this week is Breast Cancer Awareness Week.

A good number of Lincoln teachers had various forms of cancer, so this is a big deal to them too. The goal is to make people more conscious of this medical issue that is quite common and is life-threatening, but silent.

For that reason, on Wednesday, Oct. 22, students were able to support the movement by dressing up in pink, having their faces painted with a pink ribbon representing breast cancer, and having their nails painted pink by student volunteers. Many people decided to give their support, either by putting symbols on themselves or by donating a certain amount of money. All in all, it was a great opportunity for students of Lincoln High to show that they are well aware of breast cancer.

Thursday, Oct. 23, a number of students wore white, because they wanted to participate in an activity where they were given pink gloves and made the shape of a breast cancer ribbon, in order to take a group photo.

Everyone willing to help those affected by breast cancer can donate any amount of money online here, or at Lincoln throughout the week.
