Día de Los Muertos at Lincoln

Lincoln’s Art department and Performing Arts department collaborated to host a Día de Los Muertos festival on Tuesday, Nov. 4th at lunch in the quad.

Ms. Arredondo said, “Day of the Dead is celebrated on November 1st and 2nd…it is a celebration of life and greeting of spirits that are returning to the living world.”

This event has become a longstanding tradition at Lincoln, as this is the 24th year that the event has been held.

Performances and activities were planned by the National Art Honor Society, FIDM Fashion Club, Xochitl Folklorico, Beginning and Intermediate Folklorico, and Latinos Unidos. Fashion Club modeled the Día de los Muertos outfits that they had created throughout the year and sold pins for $2.

Beginning and Intermediate Folklorico sold pan dulce and champurrado for $1, while Latinos Unidos sold ornaments and Mexican candy, also for $1. Lincoln senior David Plascencia, vice president of Latinos Unidos, said, “Join Latinos Unidos; it’s an awesome club.”

The festival was a great experience for Lincoln students because it showcased the Latino culture here at Lincoln.

“When I think Day of the Dead,” Ms. Arredondo said, “I think music, fun, dance and color, family and friends.”
