Frometa’s Escape from Injury
Last Friday night when Lincoln’s football team took the field against Silver Creek, varsity tight end Adrian Frometa (#83) was injured.
Frometa explained the incident, “So it was a tight end pop, which is a pass to me, and the pass was incomplete intercepted. So I stood up as fast as I could to go chase the guy.. chasing the guy from the other team with the ball and I kinda got pushed from behind and so I was decleated. So both of my legs were up in the air, and I just landed straight on my tailbone, then after that it was just straight agony. I was yelling and screaming, already crying, and then I just didn’t move from my position and the trainer came and [I] didn’t move at all until probably like 1:30am; I was in the same position.”
911 was eventually called, and the fire department arrived soon after. Frometa was moved off the field on a stretcher by Emergency Medical Technicians, then taken to the hospital.
Frometa said, “I just couldn’t move my feet. I had nerve damage in both, in my tailbone area and it was causing straight.. uh.. I couldn’t move my feet in general.”
He added that he was “in the hospital” and “wasn’t released from the hospital until 3 in the afternoon” the next day.
What did Frometa’s dramatic injury mean for the rest of the team? He said, “I know my teammates played hard for me and didn’t give up and I know they wanted to get the win for me. What was really cool– I couldn’t see ‘cause my head was in a neck brace– was both teams lined up for me as I exited. So I guess both teams’ emotions went down because no one wants to see a player get hurt. And that’s about it.. I don’t think my teammates went down, I think my teammates got motivated more to finish the game for me.”
