Student Spotlight: Winter Break
You might have taken the boring old route with your winter break: hanging around home, watching T.V., and eating too much food. Or maybe you did something intriguing, exciting, or breathtaking, like some of your classmates. Four Lincoln students shared their exciting two week winter break experiences with Lion Tales.
Junior Ryan Ruffing attended a Golden State Warriors game versus the Philadelphia Sixers. This was Ruffing’s first NBA game. He found the experience to be “really awesome and fun to be around the players and going into the locker room.” Ruffing called it a “humbling experience for me as a sports fan.”
Sophomore Chris Vazquez spent a weekend in the mountains of Northern California with his friends. According to Vazquez, there was heavy snow, which was welcomed because neither he nor his friends had ever seen snow before. “It was our first time, and man, was it cold. We got to snowboard and play around in the snow. It was such a fun time for us because we never [had] seen so much snow in our lives.”
Senior Richie Oliveres went to the Dominican Republic. “I never left California by myself, let alone the country. I was scared.” He added, “I had a blast with new people and never knew that spending my winter break over there [would be] a lot better than in the U.S.” Oliveres continued, “They were filled with life and joy; I enjoyed being exposed to all of their wildness.”
Junior Jerome Lee went to Las Vegas, Nevada over the winter break with his family. He visited the popular MGM Grand and Circus Circus. He described it as a “great time and never having a boring time with my family.” Said Lee, “It was really cool getting to meet a lot of celebrities like Kevin Hart and Hilary Duff. It was great because I’ve always wanted to meet Kevin Hart.” He continued, “I also got a nice sweater from a random lady on the streets. It was really nice of her because I’ve always wanted a sweater like that.”
