Softball Swings Into Spring

The 2014 softball team plays a game.

Lincoln’s Varsity softball team is ready to step up to the plate this season.

Last season, Lincoln had twenty wins and one loss in league play, and overall there were twenty-three wins and two losses.

Lion Tales talked to this season’s Varsity coach, Hank Wallis, a former fast-pitch softball player who has been coaching for twenty-one years.

Coach Wallis expects the team to be competitive because they are a young team and just moved up to B division after winning league last season.

He said, “I’ve been coaching all my life. I enjoy working with high school kids because they work hard, want to learn and it is a pleasure to work with them.”

Varsity player Sydney Ezpinoza has been playing since she was four years old. The possibility of obtaining a softball scholarship for college inspired her to play softball in high school and she ended up enjoying the game. She is excited for her first official game. She said, “pre-season went great, we won all of our pre-season games.”
Junior Varsity:

Lincoln’s JV softball team went to CCS last year but did not get far in that tournament.

Lion Tales spoke to the JV coach, Andrew Christian, who has been coaching JV for about three years.

He became a coach because he wanted to interact with kids in a different context than the classroom and because he likes the game.

Coach Christian anticipates that the team will have a good time this season. He would also like for them to achieve numerous wins.

JV softball player Daniela Moreno is very excited for her first official game. She mentioned that pre-season was a good help to prepare the team for the season.

“I wanted to play softball because it is different and seemed like a lot of fun,” said Moreno. She is looking foward to growing a bond with her team and having a great time.

Come support the Lincoln softball teams as they take on Branham on Thursday, March 19. JV will play an away game at Branham at 3:15pm and Varsity will be playing a home game at 4:00pm at Lincoln.
