2015 Football Jamboree: Lions Kick Off The Season
The Lions began action for the 2015 season with several scrimmages against other high schools (Gunderson, Pioneer, Del Mar, Live Oak). Lincoln played four, 25 minute rounds against other schools in the Blossom Valley Athletic League, which revealed what they were doing well as well as strategies that needed more work. After the first round we asked Coach Adrian Phillips how his team performed and he said for the next three rounds they “want to make sure that everyone knows what they’re doing, play hard, and win some games. We want to make sure everyone gets a chance to play.”
These scrimmages were helpful for the teams, as they provided insight into what needs to be worked on. For this reason, the Jamboree wasn’t a spectator-friendly event, but for the parents, coaches and players, this was a much needed experience. “I think we did pretty well,” added Defensive Tackle Cortez Rangel, “it’s important that we get our first-game jitters out of the way.” Many parents were excited to see their kids get back on the field. In between games, there were several parents approaching the sidelines, talking to and offering support for their kids.
“Play hard and get better,” said Head Coach Kevin Collins. It’s important to get any roadblocks our Lincoln Lions have out of the way so they can be prepared for their upcoming season. They want to do their best and after asking some players what the goals for the season were, the overlying idea was to improve based on last season’s mistakes and continue their undefeated streak at the annual Thanksgiving Big Bone game.
There is confidence all around the locker room, despite any obstacles that may come up during the season. There’s a sense of togetherness in the team that is going to boost their morale and improve the team’s performance. The Lincoln Lions officially kick off the regular season on September 11, an away game at Santa Teresa high school at 7pm. It’s important for the team to have a great start to the season, so make sure to go support our school as they kick off a new and exciting season!
