New Orchestral Program at San Jose: JAMS
To all of you Lions, who are in band, orchestra, just love music, or maybe even have your own band, we present to you the coolest of the cool, orchestral programs, JAMS has arrived at your front door.
Under the artistic direction of a successful cellist, Freya Seeburger, performer in both classical ensembles and rock bands, who according to Gigmasters, has recorded and performed with independent rock, hip hop, and classical groups including Van Dyke Parks, the Awesöme Orchestra Collective, Grammy nominated artist Tanya Donelly, and The Coup (as a member of Classical Revolution). As well as under the leadership of maestro Dr. Ondine Young, a choir director, and a chamber music teacher for all ages, who has taught music at many public and private institutions.
Juxtapositions Avant Music Symphony, JAMS is a process-based youth ensemble that merges classical & contemporary repertoire with structured improvisations and workshops to cultivate a new generation of musician: players that are equally at home in the classical world and in contemporary music. The skills acquired from playing music are skills that equip JAMmers with valuable academic, business, and life skills.
Its distinctiveness is portrayed in that it is rooted in the community, aiming to reflect the community it is based in. Artistic director Freya Seeburger created it after seeing that there was a need in her home of downtown San Jose to create a process-based ensemble that promoted the merging of the classical performing arts with contemporary music, and the valuable skills that are associated with making music. JAMS seeks to cultivate the rich process of music making.
