Recap: Girls Varsity Basketball Lincoln vs. San Benito

(Nancy Estrella/Lion Tales)

On Tuesday, November 29 our Lady Lions Varsity Basketball team had their first home game of the preseason after moving leagues from C to B, making it more of a competitive environment for them.

The Lions were ahead by 7 points by half time. The score was 18-11.

In the 3rd quarter, a player from San Benito High school got injured, causing her to miss the rest of the game. Asia Burns #23, a sophomore at Lincoln, also had to sit out the rest of the game due to a leg cramp. However, Lincoln didn’t give up and ended up winning 31-25.

Sarah Greenhalgh was the star player of the game, scoring about 15 points. During an interview, Lion Tales asked Sarah, “Some of the girls on the team have said you are the best player; why do you think they say that?”

“That’s nice of them to say that I am one of the best, but its a team effort and takes a whole team to play the game,” said Sarah.

Emalie Ortega #14 also said, “Ever since we moved up leagues from C league to B league we have a big target on our back, but I think we will adjust to the pressure and take every game one at at a time.”

The Girls Varsity Basketball team played in the Glen Ventura Classic Tournament Nov. 30- Dec. 2 at Pioneer High School in San Jose, and won 2 out of their 3 games.

Don’t forget to go support our Lady Lions! Their next game is on December 9th at Live Oak @7 pm.
