1/29 Recap: Mens Varsity Soccer vs. Leigh
On Wednesday, January 29th, the mens varsity soccer team was very excited for their next league game. With the Lincoln Lion’s hosting the Leigh Longhorn’s, Lincoln fell to the Longhorns 1-2, making them 3-4 in league.
Lincoln started strong with Luis Angel Lopez #7 scoring the first goal off an assist from Edgar Lopez #11. The Lions took the 1-0 lead into half.
Both the Lions and Longhorns came out ready to play for the second half.
The Longhorns started out with possession, pushing the ball down the Lions side of the field. The Lions were playing it safe, protecting their 1-0 lead. The Longhorns scored from a cross to the middle and tied the game at 1-1.
The Lions tried to regain their momentum, and the game went back and forth. There wasn’t that much production from either team in the second half. Lincoln got a few shots on goal, but so did the Longhorns. It seemed that the Longhorns had a little bit more possession on the Lions side for the second half of the match.
The Longhorns were working hard and moving the ball around on the field and, as hard work always pays off, they scored as the Lions defense didn’t hold up from a shot down the middle of the goalie box.
With the shot, the Leigh Longhorns took the 2-1 lead. The goal came in the middle of the 2nd half, and there wasn’t enough time for the Lions offense to counter back.
Come and support the team Friday, January 31st, as they take on the Overfelt Royals. Varsity plays at 5:30, and the JV match begins 3:30.
