Jacob Hoekstra Interview
Jacob Hoekstra, who is a big part of the Lincoln Lions Track and Field team, has been a huge factor in the consecutive wins the team has had of late. He is one of the best hurdlers in the Central Coast Section (CCS).
Hoekstra was interviewed by Lion Tales.
How do you feel about carrying the track team onto consecutive wins?
He answered modestly, “I wouldn’t say carry the team because there’s more teammates that do the best they could. I just try to do the best I can out there.”
Do you consider yourself a leader out there on the field?
“Yes, track is a very individual sport but there’s also many leaders that step up and do the best they can. Last year as a Sophomore I felt like a leader because we were 3 points away from winning league and the rest of the team felt like leaders also because we were so close.”
What motivates you to give your all and go all out in every meet?
“I want to be the best at everything I put my time on”
Describe how you prepare for meets.
“I tend to be very much in my zone, I mentally don’t think about anything just get in my zone and get ready to do what I’m good at.”
What do you do during practice?
“During practice I roll out my muscles and make sure they aren’t tight, I work on individual stretches, and lastly just hydrate and drink a gallon of water.”
What is challenging about hurdles?
“Like sprints, hurdles are also very technical. I just tell myself I have to be technical and I’m good.”
How are hurdles different from sprints?
“Well, in hurdles you have to stay calm at all times, including your body, and also it requires a lot more power.”
Jacob Hoekstra has been focusing on his next meet and trying to get ready mentally and physically.
