Lincoln Athletes Compete in CCS Track Trials, Finals

Jose Pina races to victory in the 1600 Meters at CCS trials on May 26.

Lincoln’s Track and Field team had an amazing season, prevailing time and time again against its competitors all the way to CCS finals. Although there were only 3 who advanced to the CCS finals, several other athletes made it to trials, unfortunately failing to advance. All athletes made a great effort.

In the CCS Trials at San Jose City College on Monday, May 26, Olivia Brashears, Karina Brouse, Briana Morales, Sam Mendoza, Ramon Guzman and Frank Zhou all performed well, but did not qualify for the finals. However, 3 athletes did qualify. These athletes were Jacob Hoekstra in the 110 Meter Hurdles and 300 Meter Hurdles, Jose Pina in the 1600 Meters and the 3200 Meters, and Daniel Cervantes in the 800 Meters.

Later in the week on Friday, May 30, the three qualifying athletes competed in CCS finals for their respective events.

Jacob Hoekstra finished 7th in the 110 Meter Hurdles and 8th in the 300 Meter Hurdles. He did not qualify for state.

The next athlete, Jose Pina, finished 8th in the 1600 Meters and 7th in the 3200 Meters, also missing the cut to travel to Clovis for the state meet.

One of our Lincoln Lions did make the cut though. Daniel Cervantes finished 3rd in the 800 Meters, landing him a coveted spot in the Track and Field State Championship on June 6 and 7 in Clovis.

Congratulations to Daniel Cervantes, along with all of Lincoln’s ferocious Track and Field competitors. Go Lions!
