Lions Beat Saints, Gear up to Face Aragon
The Lions are working hard at practice in preparation to face a stronger team than last week’s opponent Santa Teresa. This week on Friday, Sept. 19 at 4pm and 7pm, the Lions will play Aragon High School at the Lincoln stadium. Aragon will be the toughest opponent they will be facing this season. The Lions had problems with Aragon last season, losing to the other team 35 to 7.
Last Friday saw huge victories against Santa Teresa. Junior Varsity won 42 to 6, overcoming their no-win season from last year to start the new season with a huge win. Varsity had a good game as well, winning 34 to 26. The Lions went all out the whole game.
In the varsity game at the start of the third quarter, the Lions and the Santa Teresa Saints ended their warm-ups. They were about to go on the field to start the second half when all of a sudden all the lights went off on the field. They had to wait around 20 minutes for the coaches to fix the lights and turn them back on.
Lincoln had two injuries throughout the game. One of the injuries was the starting running back Jacob Hoekstra. Hoekstra was injured during the third quarter, but came back into the game to average around 250 yards. The second injury happened during the second quarter, and took out a linebacker for part of the game.
During the varsity game, the Lions received a visit from multiple members of the Lincoln Class of 1969. They stayed to watch the whole game and had much fun cheering for the Lions throughout.
Come out to support the football team at their upcoming game against Aragon. You will not want to miss this game, as it is expected to be the most intense game of the season.
Junior Varsity will start at 4pm and Varsity at 7pm.
