Lincoln’s Mardi Gras Celebration
Students flooded the quad for the Mardi Gras celebration, which came a bit late, as the real Mardi Gras was on February 17. Money was flying all around as students went on a food shopping spree. All the pizza was sold in seconds, so this reporter was only able to enjoy it in his photos, not in his stomach. The last three slices of pizza had just been sold as this reporter was approaching the stand from the overpopulated queue.
After the disappointment of the pizza scarcity, the next stop was the Root Beer float stand, hosted by the National Arts Honor Society. Quickly after, the hunger struck, so a good food stand had to be found. The choice fell to a burrito stand, where a $3 chicken burrito ended this reporter’s stomach winding journey.
Dance performances and games were very well organized, featuring a breathtaking performance from the Xochitl Folklorico dance group. Ms. Zamora took the lead on decorations, and was helped by students with the set-up. It was obvious that a lot of preparation was put in, in order to provide the Lincoln community with a proper celebration of this nation-wide important holiday.
All in all, the Lincoln Mardi Gras celebration was a huge success, gathering a lot of money for all of the club piggy banks and making sure nobody went home hungry.
