Student Athlete Profile: Jose Piña
Three miles. Fifteen minutes. One goal. Lincoln’s own Jose Piña will be representing the Lions in the Cross Country State Meet in Fresno this next Saturday, November 30th.
As Lincoln’s premier Cross Country runner, Piña placed 1st at Crystal Springs, the local course where runners compete, with a time of 15:32. This time qualified him for the CCS meet, where he placed 6th with a time of 15:45.
Lion Tales was able to catch up with the fast-running Piña and asked him some questions.
Lion Tales: How do you feel about continuing the rest of the season without your team?
Piña: “I feel like everyone else, but competing at a higher level. Just nervous about the upcoming race.”
Lion Tales: How do you prepare for the race?
Piña: “Training hard, but not long. Also, training hard the week before the big race and then, the week of the race, relaxing.”
Lion Tales: What goes on through your head when the race is going on?
Piña: “Try to stay with the pack, and try to get a better time, and place every race.”
Lion Tales: Any advice for future runners?
Piña: “Train hard and smart.”
