Obama visita a Cuba , entre aplausos y la condenación

El presidente Barack Obama, que inició este domingo su histórico viaje a Cuba, es el primer mandatario de Estados Unidos que visita la isla en casi 90 años y el único que lo ha hecho desde el triunfo de la revolución castrista en 1959. Pero su visita, en medio de una vibrante campaña electoral, tiene diferentes lecturas y valoraciones.
Uno de los primeros en repudiar el viaje de Obama a Cuba ha sido el precandidato republicano a la Casa Blanca Ted Cruz,de padre cubano, quien valoró el hecho como “un espectáculo de mal gusto” que “enriquece y da poder a la dictadura” de la isla.
“Tengo unas palabras para los cubanos que contemplen el espectáculo de mal gusto en La Habana este fin de semana: Estados Unidos no los ha olvidado”, sostiene el senador por Texas en un artículo de opinión publicado el domingo por el diario Politico.
“Yo soy el hijo de un cubano que fue golpeado y torturado por el régimen de (Fulgencio) Batista y mi tía fue maltratada por los matones de (Fidel) Castro. Gracias a Dios tanto mi padre como mi tía Sonia encontraron la libertad en Estados Unidos”, explica el legislador.
Para Cruz, “la libertad” debe llegar a Cuba pero no lo hará “enriqueciendo y dando poder a la dictadura mientras exporta terrorismo en toda Latinoamérica”. “Y no puede llegar olvidando el heroísmo y el sufrimiento de las valientes almas que se han opuesto a los Castro por muchas décadas”, agrega.
El padre de Cruz, Rafael Bienvenido, nació en Matanzas (Cuba) y fue encarcelado y golpeado por las fuerzas de Batista tras haberse unido con 14 años a la lucha revolucionaria de Fidel Castro.  A los 18 consiguió salir de Cuba solicitando su admisión en la Universidad de Texas y una visa de estudio de cuatro años en EEUU.
“Este es un enfoque que debió tomarse desde hace mucho tiempo. Yo continúo apoyando sus peticiones al Congreso para acabar por completo con el fallido embargo.  Cincuenta años de Guerra Fría fueron suficientes. Ha llegado la hora de que Cuba y Estados Unidos cerremos ese capítulo y normalicemos nuestras relaciones”, dice el comunicado de Sanders.
Caracterizado por su pugnacidad verbal, el aspirante republicano Donald Trump esta vez rebaja el volumen para criticar que el presidente Obama no fuese recibido por el gobernante cubano a su arribo a La Habana (lo hizo el canciller Bruno Rodríguez).  Trump consideró una falta de respeto que el presidente de Cuba, Raúl Castro, no haya recibido a su homólogo estadounidense, Barack Obama, este domingo en el aeropuerto de La Habana a su llegada a la isla.
Sin embargo, el gobierno estadounidense descartó que haya sido ofensivo que el gobernante cubano no haya recibido a Barack Obama. Ben Rhodes, asesor adjunto de seguridad nacional de Obama, dijo que “nunca se contempló ni se discutió” que Castro estaría en el aeropuerto. But his visit, in the middle of a vibrant electoral campaign, has different values.
One of the first to repudiate Obama’s trip to Cuba was the republican pre-candidate to the White House, Ted Cruz, of Cuban descent who values the fact as “a spectacle of bad taste” which “enriches and empowers the dictatorship” of the island.
“I have a few words for the Cubans that contemplate the spectacle of bad taste in La Habana this weekend: The United States has not been forgotten”, sustained the Texas senator in an article of opinion published on the newspaper Publico on Sunday.
“I am the son of a Cuban that was beaten and tortured by Batista’s (Fulgencio) regime. And my aunt was mistreated by guards of Castro (Fidel). Thank god that my father and my Aunt Sonia found asylum and liberty in the United States’, Explained the legislator.
For Cruz “liberty” should come to Cuba but it will not. Instead it will “enrich and give power to the dictatorship while glorifying terrorism in all of latin America. And you still can’t forget the suffering and heroism of the valiant souls that have fought back against Castro for decades” he adds on.
Cruz’s father, Rafael Bienvenido, was born in Matanzas (Cuba) and was jailed and beaten by Batistas army since he contributed at the age of 14 to the revolution supporting Fidel Castro. At age 18 he was able to leave Cuba fallowing an admission to the University of Texas and a study visa for four years in the United States.
“This should have been approached a long time ago. I continue to support their requests to Congress to completely end the failed embargo. Fifty years of Cold War was enough. It is time for Cuba and the United States to close that chapter and normalize our relations,” said Sanders.
Characterized by their verbal pugnacity, the Republican, Donald Trump, lowered the volume to be able to criticize that President Obama was not received by the Cuban leader on his arrival in Havana (did Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez). Trump was considered this disrespectful towards the President of Cuba, Raul Castro, that he did not receive his US counterpart, Barack Obama, on Sunday at the Havana airport upon arrival to the island.
However, the US government ruled that it was offensive to the Cuban leader that he has not received Barack Obama. Ben Rhodes, deputy national security adviser to Obama, said it was “never contemplated nor discussed” that Castro would be at the airport.
