Drama in Social Media
CORRECTION (2/17/17): Attribution added to paraphrase of Ms. Hansen’s comments regarding who creates pages soliciting inappropriate content.
In social media, a lot of things go on. Some things may be fake. Some things may be harmful. Some people may use it just to have conversations with family or friends.
On January 10th we found a page that was made to expose local students in inappropriate pictures. We interviewed Ms.Hansen, an administrator at Lincoln High School, about the new page. She said that these pages are “frustrating and nasty.” She said that it’s a form of “slut shame” and “child pornography.” Ms. Hansen also said the people involved in this are usually talked to by police because posting inappropriate pictures is illegal. All the people that are posting or sending these pictures do get in trouble for what they have done. These people can be suspended, expelled, or get possible jail time. The people that create these pages can be anyone that just want to see other people’s inappropriate pictures posted, Ms. Hansen said.
We also interviewed other students and teachers about their opinions on Instagram and Snapchat and we got some answers on what filters they like, what do they think people use social media for, what they don’t like about Instagram, and what posts they like. We wanted to ask both teachers and students because we knew that the answers would be very different because of the age difference. The questions and answers are down below.
