Dajana Vareskič: A Tennis Profile
Tennis is a sport, much like golf, that doesn’t get much attention apart from the big tournaments and players. Big tennis tournaments such as Wimbledon and The French Open provide a thrill to play. The glory in winning, however, is just as big as winning in other sports.
Take Dajana Vareskič, a junior a Lincoln. The Lincoln Girls’ Tennis team found success with the sure swing of Dajana’s racquet. She has been a student of the sport since she was five, and Dajana helped the girls’ tennis team win the BVAL Girls’ Tennis title.
Although Dajana had a first round exit in the BVAL singles championship, it means more to just get to the next level. Dajana says, apart from playing tennis as a high school sport, it is also a hobby. She says that the key to succeeding in trying new things and endeavors is to have confidence is whatever you do. Tennis is a sport that doesn’t get as much attention, but with the skill level to succeed in sport being so high, maybe tennis should be on ESPN more.
As stated before, Dajana suffered a loss in the first round of the tournament. Dajana will hope to make back next year and lead Lincoln to another girls’ tennis title. When asked what is the key to her success, she wisely said that “trusting your gut is how you get far.”
