Prom at Abraham Lincoln High School is basically the one night where your outfit feels like the most important decision of your life – even though, realistically, no one cares what you’re wearing and they will forget it in a week. Still, that doesn’t stop everyone from stressing out about it.
So, what should you wear?
Honestly, it depends on how much effort you’re trying to put in. Some people go all out with long dresses or full suits like they’re walking a red carpet. If that’s your vibe, go for it. A nice dress, a suit with a tie, maybe even a bow tie if you’re feeling fancy – it all works! But it doesn’t have to be that serious. Short dresses, simpler outfits, or just a clean shirt and dress pants can still look good.
A lot of people at Lincoln try to match outfits with their date, which can definitely be a cool idea if you don’t overthink it. You don’t need to be the exact same shade of blue or the same design, just having something that kind of goes together is enough. Don’t worry too much, otherwise you’ll spend way too long stressing over something that honestly doesn’t matter that much.
Accessories can help too, but you don’t need to go crazy. A little jewelry, a tie, maybe a corsage or boutonniere if you’re into that, it adds to the outfit without making it feel like too much. The main thing is wearing something you feel good in, because if you’re uncomfortable, it’s all you’re going to think about.
Shoes are where people mess up the most. Sure, heels and dress shoes look nice, but do they feel nice, too? You have to walk, stand, and dance in them for hours. By the middle of the night, half the people are carrying their shoes or limping around. If you can, pick something comfortable or at least bring a backup. better safe than sorry.
At the end of the day, prom isn’t really about having the “perfect” outfit. Once you’re there, everyone is focused on taking pictures, dancing, and having a good time. So wear something you like, something you feel confident in, and don’t stress too much.
And seriously…pick good shoes! That’s probably the one thing you’ll regret!
