Milo “Mouse” Jackson (Tyrese Gibson) and Alicia West (Naomie Harris)

Black and Blue, directed by Deon Taylor, takes place in New Orleans, Louisiana. A rookie cop has to decide whether she identifies with her African American culture, or as a cop when she witnesses some corrupt cops murdering innocent African Americans. It’s a crime action drama movie starring; Naomi Harris, Frank Grillo, and Tyrese Gibson. I gave the movie 4 out of 5 stars.

★★★★⛤

A rookie police officer Alicia West, played by Naomi Harris, witnesses Narcotics Officer Terry Milone, played by Frank Grillo, and other cops murdering some African American teenagers. Alicia West captures the murder on her body cam, which she intends to return to her precinct and upload the footage. The corrupt cops then begin a manhunt for Officer West when she gets away with the footage on foot. Later on, Officer Milone then speaks with the local drug lord Darius, played by Mike Colter, to get his gang to also search for Officer West. She then gets help from “Mouse” Jackson, played by Tyrese Gibson, as she attempts to evade the cops and crooks to get back to the precinct.

Overall, the movie was captivating. It was interesting to see how the main character has two different points of views for how she treats and is treated by people of her own race. As much as she wishes to see the best in everyone, she eventually has to pick whether she wants to be a cop, “blue” or an African American “black” woman. The directors also did a great job depicting how police officers misuse their authority to harass African American citizens. As well as how they disregard the neighborhoods in which African Americans live. It was also interesting how the directors showed separate points of view as the events of the movie unfolded. That of the cops, corrupt cops, and gang members.
