Thanksgiving is a time full of love and warmth. Families from far and near reunite to celebrate all the blessings the past year has brought upon each and every one of us. Lincoln students and administrators will be having a Thanksgiving break next week. During the break, many students may wonder how to spend their precious time to the fullest potential. Some may choose to go on adventures with family members, such as attending a festival, a tree lighting ceremony, or even a Turkey Trot; others may choose to stay home and relax while listening to some music. What better way to spend Thanksgiving break than attending the Big Bone game? The Big Bone, an annual football game between the Lincoln lions and the San Jose bulldog, has been going on for over seventy years. Each year, the bleachers are always packed with an enthusiastic audience cheering loudly for the players. This is from 11:00 am. 

After the game, families and friends may find themselves hungry after all the excitement of the Big Bone game. LB Steak  Santana Row will be hosting a Thanksgiving celebration meal from noon to 8:00 P.M. They will be offering a reduced regular dinner menu and a $69.00 three-course prix fixe menu. For dessert, a very special Fall Apple Crisp Tart with Tahitian vanilla bean ice cream will be served. Other restaurants on Santana Row that will also be open on Thanksgiving are Left Bank Brasserie and Maggiano’s Little Italy, both open from noon to 8:00 P.M. 

For Lincoln Lions who are seeking for an outdoor event to build up more stamina and also help get into the Thanksgiving spirit of giving to others, the annual SF Bay Area Turkey Trot is the perfect place to go. Founded and produced by the Silicon Valley Leadership Group Foundation, the 15th annual Bay Area Turkey Trot will take place in the morning of Thanksgiving. It offers the option of attending a 5K race, a 10k race, and also a Kids Fun Run. All the money for registration goes toward charitable programs that help provide individuals with affordable housing, food to feed hungry families, and vision screenings and glasses for children.

For lovers of relaxed strolls, tree lighting is a tradition that should definitely not be missed. Not only are tree lightings events festive, they also provide wonderful opportunities to engage and bond with families and friends coming to visit during the break. A parade and tree lighting will be hosted in Downtown San Jose in Christmas in the Park on November 29, 2019, from 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM. The annual Union Square tree lighting ceremony in San Francisco will begin at 5:30 PM and end around 6:50 P.M. For those who have an appreciation for art, music, and food, the Harvest Festival Original Art and Craft Show will be worth a visit. A unique collection of works by independent artists will be showcased and available for purchase at the festival, as well as live entertainment to enjoy. Adult tickets are $9.00 each and youth (ages 13-17) will be $4.00.  

Thanksgiving is all about giving back to those you care for the most and cherishing those around you. Spend Thanksgiving break through exciting events and festivals or even just relaxing at home with some family and friends.
