Xochitl 2015
Lincoln High School’s well known Performing Arts Program has kicked off the year, and advanced Folklórico team, Xochitl, is off to a great start. This team is made up of highly skilled dancers who are fully dedicated, and invested in the Mexican Cultural Dancing. This intriguing dance style is a combination of faster and slower dance routines with the wardrobe of the traditional culture. From the long skirts, to the intricate updo Xochitl members are always ready to work hard, and have fun in their traditional dances.
Xochitl dancer Cesar Ruiz states that, “Everyone is passionate about Folklórico.” Folklórico is able to inspire passion in its dancers through its rich culture. Xochitl teacher Genesis Ibanez is excited, pumped for the team and enjoys their passion for the sport. Genesis has been teaching Xochitl for four years now and still continues to love it, and is always confident in her teaching. Two year Xochitl dancer Isabel Sumano believes that the dances represent her culture, and that it is her passion. Isabel also says that her Xochitl teacher is “supportive, and willing to help when needed,” and that she donates all her time to help dancers to achieve their goals.
Check out the Xochitl team at their first performance on September 16, Mexican Independence Day, in the quad during lunch.
