Rip N’ Time CD Review

Rip N' Time CD Review

“...In September 2013, four young musicians began a journey–traveling though a portal where space, time and music intersect..

A new band from the Los Angeles area emerges with a three song CD. The Band called Rip N’ Time comes out with a CD titled “Playing her Guitar Suite”. The band started in their Multimedia studies class in West Los Angeles. Their instructor assigned them to “craft a separate project that would also be part of a larger whole” The leading member Riley Ripintyme was the first to speak “I’ll Start a band!” and thus Rip N’ Time was born. The band consists of Ripintyme on rythm guitar and lead, Langston LaBelle on vocals and rhythm guitar, Akemi Lee on bass, and Vincent Tarrega on drums.

The album artwork already got me the urge to pop it into my CD player and drift away. In the first song, “Playing Her Guitar“, you can hear The Beatles Influence vocals and that eighties new wave drum style. The catchy guitar riff and the upbeat drums had me mesmerized.  The next 2 songs were only instrumentals but they are both worth the listen. The second song “Twisting Road” is an eight minute dreamy relaxed guitar ambiance with a few solos on top. During this song is when I finally caught myself drifting into that portal “where space, time and music intersect.” I found myself daydreaming and in a great mood while listening. the third and last song, “Suit Dream” is another dreamy instrumental. This is the song where i started to come back from The Rip N’ Time Jangle Journey. The soft echoes of the guitars and upbeat bass riff welcomes you back to reality, and just before you begin to leave a final good-bye solo gives its farewell. Not only is there a farewell guitar solo, there is also a very soothing harmonized vocals also their right when you leave to bid you farewell.  After coming back from their Jingle Jangle Journey, I was really impressed with their sound. The CD also comes with a 24 page Graphic Novella Booklet that has hand drawn artwork by, an artist in their Multimedia Studies class, Robin Araki.

I see a lot of potential in this band and I will continue to follow them on their online journal http://playingherguitarebook.com/
