December 2015 Artist Of The Month
The artist of the month is 18 year old Senior Amelia Hernandez, who attends Abraham Lincoln High School. Hernandez has been an artist since she was 2 years old, and is currently placed in the AP art level at Lincoln. She plans on having a career in art, and wants to experience things by “[creating] something from nothing.” Amelia recently created an art piece called “Released” — she was inspired to draw this as a tribute to Frida Kahlo, who had a difficult life.
Out of all of the drawing materials, Hernandez enjoys drawing with pen, mostly. Her favorite types of things to draw are portraits that are drawn from memory. Hernandez believes that Ms. Zamora pushes the students to do what they struggle with, in class. By doing so, this helps the students overcome their struggles and become better artists. She has respect and appreciation for art, and her personal connection is built from that.
