Pet of the Week 7: Daisha

What’s on my face? (Monica Todd / for Lion Tales)

This week’s Pet of the Week goes to Daisha, a feline of Ms. Todd, whom is a teacher here at Lincoln.  This time, Daisha’s biography is coming from her owner.  Ms. Todd writes:

Daisha is a ten-year old Seal Point Siamese cat, She is very affectionate and intelligent, and has bonded strongly to her new human “parents” (more like servants).  However, she does not like others to pet her.  She is extremely vocal, with a loud, low-pitched voice, and she is quite persistent in demanding attention. This often means that around 2:30 am, she will jump up on the bed, dance across her owners legs, jump back on the floor with a thud, before prancing down the hallway to sit and wait by her bowl, meowing for a snack.   This nightly practice has given her parents the idea of what it might be like to get up in the middle of the night to tend to the needs of an infant.

As a kitten, Daisha was quite fond of playing fetch with her toy mice, something she rarely does any more. She enjoys having her toy mouse tossed up to her while she is perched in her kitty tower and will smack it skillfully with one paw, watching her humans scramble to retrieve it and toss it up to her again.  She loves attention and is known to bite the corners of any book her humans are reading or will step onto and sit on the laptop computer until her demands are met.

She is very active and playful, and can be  described as more dog-like in behavior than other cats.  She recognizes the sound of her owners cars driving down the street and she will leap up to greet them at the door when they return home, meowing with delight.  Sometimes, she will provoke panic throughout the hearts of her humans when she cannot be found anywhere within the house.  Since she is confined to the house, much like the princess she is in an ivory tower, her humans fear the idea of her getting out and hit by a car.  Usually, she will come out from wherever she has hidden at the sound of food being poured in her bowl, causing her human servants to wonder exactly where she had been the entire time they were tearing the house apart in pursuit of her presence.

As annoying as she can be at times, Daisha is a truly loving fur-baby who makes a hard day at work disappear with her purring attention.
