As you may know, graduation is coming up pretty quick and many are rushing to meet their high school graduation requirements. On Tuesday, May 3rd, the school called in a mandatory meeting for seniors to discuss the plans for the remaining days of instruction. The staff explained the basic rules for the day of graduation along with some important dates.

Seniors:

  • Graduation will be on Wednesday, June 1st at 1:30pm at the Municipal Rose Garden, it is required that all seniors report at 12:30pm, ready to go with cap and gown on.
  • Because it is a formal event it is also recommended for the students to dress accordingly, avoiding tennis shoes and flip flops (heels are permitted but it is important to keep in mind you will be walking on the grass, and across the stage, in front of dozens of people).
  • NO decoration on caps
  • NO cell phones/inflatable balls

Audience:

  • Arrive by 12:30 for seating
  • NO noisemakers/horns (it may be too loud, and the next student’s name will not be heard when called)
  • NO umbrellas for shade once the ceremony begins
  • Bring sunscreen/sunglasses/hats

Mr. Hewitson, the principal, also spoke about the important rehearsal dates that will be students will be required to attend in order to graduate. If students fail to attend them, they will not walk the stage.Timing is important as well, do not be late.

Students will also have the opportunity to audition for the graduation speech (English and Spanish), the runner-up will be able to give their’s at the Senior Awards night. Applications for the graduation speeches can be picked up in student services.

Another important announcement the staff mentioned was, in order to to participate in the graduation ceremony, all of the student credits must be fulfilled (community service hours, first aid, CPR and Health Requirement). There are no exceptions!

Although seniors are eager to get this school year over with, attendance is very important. Student debt must also be payed off as well, or they can say goodbye to Prom and/or the Graduation Ceremony.
