Lincoln Students Chill Out in Cold Weather

Morning temperatures plummeted to a wintery range beginning late last week and the earlier part of this week, reaching a low of 29°F. They have consistently remained in the “really cold” zone. With these temperatures, students can accurately declare that they are freezing, because, well, they are.

Each morning brings with it a mad dash into the warm halls of the main building, but many students still brave the cold and hang out outside, wearing a bazillion sweaters and jackets of course.

Lincoln students are increasingly finding that the T-shirts and shorts of September just aren’t cutting it anymore. Sophomore Phillip Nguyen commented, “It’s really cold. I wear a jacket, and am planning to buy gloves.”

Across campus, shivering teenagers can often be found wearing three or more layers of jackets and sweatshirts, in a bid to stay warm throughout the day. Likewise, freezing hands, faces, and necks are remedied with gloves, beanies, and scarves. Because the weather is under 60°F degrees, beanies are allowed to be worn on campus outside of the classrooms, with some teachers allowing them inside too.

Capitalizing on the suffering of cold teenagers early in the morning, a group of entrepreneurial students from the Interact club has started selling hot chocolate at a table in the quad, thawing out frozen students. Hot chocolate was sold December 2nd through December 13th from 7:00 to 7:30am, for the reasonable price of $1.00. Many students made a ritual out of daily hot chocolate. It will surely be missed as we dive into January and February after Christmas Break.

All hope is not lost with this cold weather. In the next week, temperatures are expected to gradually rise, reaching 70°F by next Tuesday. Until the sun shines on us once again, just hold on, bundle up, and stay warm!
