What is Modern Art?

It’s unavoidable, it’s weird, it’s consuming hipsters everywhere; no matter where you live Modern Art is sure to be the talk of the town. So what is this artistically ambitious phenomenon?

Created during the Industrial Revolution, modern art was becoming a very popular way of rebelling against social normalizes and standards. Art began to stray away from traditional storytelling and gravitated towards a call to action to join social movements or commemorate past experiences. Vivid colors and the largest variety of techniques ever seen are used in Modern Art.

In more recent years Modern Art has struck America’s youth in a very popular website called Tumblr. Tumblr has an average of 300 million visits a month, and 4 out of every 5 Lincoln students has visited it at least once.

Anne and Mark’s art party, “an occasional and irrational San Jose Modern art fest” opened for a long weekend on September 24 where multiple Lincoln students volunteered. San Jose even has its own Modern Art Museum on Market street where local Modern artists flock to showcase their work.

Modern Art has even begun to show up on our own campus.
