UPDATE: It’s Getting Hot in Here

UPDATE: (10/13/17) Story has included links to the Air Quality Index and added photographs of the smoke throughout the Bay Area.

Monday, October 10, there were a series of wildfires spreading throughout the state of California, especially in the Napa and Los Angeles area.

Starting, October 11,2017, Lincoln High School was enveloped in smoke due to these fires. All this smoke has led to an sharp increase to the Air Quality Index which measures the number of particles in the atmosphere and the quality of the air.

The drop in air quality led the Blossom Valley Athletic League(BVAL) to make the decision to “CANCEL ALL ATHLETIC CONTESTS, INDOOR AND OUTDOOR,  FOR ALL SPORTS for Thursday, Friday AND Saturday, October 12th – 14th,” according to an email sent to the Lincoln High School faculty by the BVAL commissioner Colette M. Kirk.

Then on Monday, October 16, the BVAL commissioner will re-evaluate the air quality and make a decision on next week’s contests.

At least 170,000 acres have been burned as a result of these fires. Not only that 29 people have been declared dead and hundreds more have been declared missing; making these sets of fires one of the deadliest California has ever seen.
